Abstract
The immune system is responsible for overall health. It promotes angiogenesis, enhances wound healing, controls bone formation, and regulates bone resorption. How does the immune system fail? It fails through the persistence of inflammation, both local and systemic. With the major advances in bone science (osteoimmunology), it has become clear that assessing a patient’s inflammatory status can help evaluate their immune function. Calculating inflammatory indices is an edective way to assess the immune system and to predict, based on the patient’s health status, the outcome of bone surgery. During this workshop, we will present how to calculate immune system status and explore solutions to improve it by reducing both systemic and local inflammation.
